After the 2 hours odd flight, we safely landed at Bangkok International Airport. What was really surprising for us, was that we saw a golf course running through the Taxiway and Runway of this airport. Amazing, that we have golfers walking around, right next to the tarmac, alongside the big Boeings and Airbuses. In fact the Taxiway cuts accross the golf course, and golfers have to wait for planes to taxi pass. They even have one of those barriers ( like those for railway crossing) to let golfers know that a plane will be taxing by ( as if they can’t see). Imagine the security nightmare this golf course poses!!!

Well we got off the plane pretty quick and we were in the terminal building - after a short bus ride from the plane, and through passport control, and then the luggage conveyor. Adrian’s lock on his bag was apparently opened and we quickly checked through the content to make sure everything was there, and nothing was put in. After the Indonesian Case, where the Australian was arrested for drug smuggling, ( she claimed it was placed in her bags) , we were pretty paranoid. We had an Air Asia staff watch, as Adrian went through his luggage. Luckily everything that was suppose to be there, was there .

Now getting a Taxi at the Bangkok airport is one heck of a confusing affair, as there has not been anything on the net about this. Immediately after clearing customs, we swamped by companies offering limo services. Despite advice not to take these Limo , but to get a metered taxi, we fell for the temptation. Although the cost was quite cheap, overall about BHT 1700 (RM 170) for 11 of us ( 1 Van and 1 Toyota Camry) , to the Hotel, it could have been 50% cheaper, if we took a metered taxi from the Airport.

The drive took approximately 30 minutes and we didn’t encounter any major jams. We had to pay the Highway tolls separately, which amounted to BHT 60 ( RM 6) per vehicle. Sorry no photos for this part of the journey.

Next up … the Hotel .. and Day 1.

Tips & Advice : For budget concious travellers, do not fall prey to the Airport Limo services, which are approximately 50% more expensive then the Meter Taxis, just at the exit of the Airport Arrival Lounge. Meter Taxis are safe, reliable and comfortable. However if you want to travel in the comfort of a Camry, then do go for the Airport Limos. Btw.. you can haggle the price with these Limos.
